NEC - Nation's Experience Capital

To mark its 50th anniversary, the National Exhibition Centre needed a bold new brand positioning. LMC reimagined it as the Nation’s Experience Capital, celebrating the shared, unforgettable moments the NEC creates for millions of visitors. A refreshed visual identity supports this positioning, with each of the NEC’s five iconic venues given its own colour to help distinguish events across the site.

 
 

The Nation’s Experience Capital 

To coincide with its 50th anniversary, the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) appointed LMC to rebrand the organisation in line with a new positioning as the Nation’s Experience Capital - celebrating the shared, unforgettable moments it creates for millions of visitors each year. Once known primarily for its exhibition halls, the NEC has evolved into a multi-venue operator hosting exhibitions, conferences, arena tours, sporting events and immersive experiences.

Now positioned as the Nation’s Experience Capital, the brand brings together the NEC Campus, bp pulse LIVE, the Vox, Utilita Arena Birmingham and ICC Birmingham under a single, consumer-facing identity centred on live experiences. Each of the five iconic venues has been assigned its own distinctive colour, helping visitors easily distinguish events across the collective.

 
 
 
 

The stage is set

The visual execution of the new brand takes inspiration from the exterior architecture of the NEC Campus, translating its forms into patterns and distinctive graphic assets. Bespoke key visuals were developed for each venue, using triangular shapes to create dynamic bursts of energy. These striking compositions reflect the excitement and diversity of experiences as well as the wide range of guests who visit the NEC.

 
 
 
 

It’s showtime

A comprehensive set of brand guidelines ensures consistency across both print and digital applications. Alongside the visual identity, LMC developed a tone of voice that champions the word “experience” within headlines, reinforcing the proposition of the Nation’s Experience Capital. Paired with striking visuals, the result is a bold, distinctive, and memorable brand identity.
